Rural Zimbabwe & Harare

At a glance

A child's circumstances should never decide their future.

Beneta's Foundation is a Zimbabwe-based charitable initiative supporting underprivileged primary and secondary school children in rural communities and Harare.

Our integrated model helps children stay in, return to, and succeed at school, while strengthening their families' capacity to provide stable care and income.

What success looks like

A supported child is safer, attending and progressing at school, able to take part in age-appropriate activities and connected to a family with greater financial resilience. We measure progress against each child's starting point, not simply money distributed.

Vision

A Zimbabwe in which a child's circumstances do not determine their access to education, wellbeing or opportunity.

Mission

One child. One family. One objective at a time: remove barriers to learning, protect children's wellbeing and help families build sustainable livelihoods.

Our values
  • Compassion
  • Dignity
  • Equity
  • Child-centred choice
  • Transparency
  • Long-term stewardship

In loving memory

Mbuya Beneta Neshena

A woman of deep Christian faith, humility and unwavering love, Mbuya Beneta believed in the power of giving, no matter how little one had. Her home was a place of comfort, laughter and togetherness, where everyone was welcomed and no one left feeling forgotten. The Foundation exists to turn those values into a lasting, practical legacy.

What we do

Five connected services. One plan for each child.

Every child receives a documented support plan. Wherever possible we pay vetted schools and providers directly, so every dollar goes where it is meant to.

01

Education access

School-related fees where payable, uniforms, books, materials, transport, accessibility needs, tutoring and supported re-entry for children out of school.

02

Household essentials

A family grocery parcel every term for every supported child, food-security referrals and short-term emergency help.

03

Health & wellbeing

Case-by-case medical cost help, health referrals, psychosocial signposting and safeguarding follow-up by qualified professionals.

04

Personal development

Sport, arts, clubs, school trips and other enriching experiences that let children simply be children.

05

Family enterprise

Small start-up grants and light-touch coaching so caregivers can earn independently.

How support works

From first referral to a brighter year ahead.

  1. 01

    Referral or application

From families, schools, local leaders, clinics or safeguarding partners.

  2. 02

    Screening & safeguarding

Every need is screened and every child's safety checked first.

  3. 03

    Child & family assessment

We listen, and agree what is really getting in the way.

  4. 04

    Independent approval

A conflict-free panel approves each plan.

  5. 05

    12-month support plan

Clear, written and understandable for the family.

  6. 06

    A named social worker

Every child has their own qualified lead.

  7. 07

    Monthly contact

Plus quarterly school and household reviews.

  8. 08

    Renewal or planned transition

No sudden endings. Every exit is planned.

Where we are heading

From 10 children to 50.

We start with 10 children in Year 1 and plan to support 50 by Year 5, growing only as fast as funding and safe caseloads allow, so care is never stretched thin.

Each child has a written 12-month plan and a named social worker. New children join only when funding and safe caseloads allow.

Family enterprise

Kindness that keeps on giving.

Caregivers can apply for a one-time start-up grant for a safe, practical microenterprise, such as produce trading, tailoring or food preparation, with mentoring at months 1, 3, 6 and 12.

  1. 1Up to US$100 start-up grant
  2. 2A family business takes root
  3. 3If profitable: 20% of profit, up to US$20 in total
  4. 4Passed on to the next family

No profit means no contribution. It is never a loan or debt, and never a condition of a child's support.
